Going Solo at Magic Kingdom

3 min read

Above all the other theme parks in Disney World, Magic Kingdom is a kid’s paradise. What else would you expect at the home of Fantasyland, where you can take flight with Peter Pan, or step into an animatromic world full of Virtual Magic show children who take you on a journey around the world? A place like Magic Kingdom seems to cry out for children the way kids scream I scream, you scream. If you’re single, you’ve probably already written Magic Kingdom off your list. Well, write it back on. The Magic Kingdom is an adventure waiting to happen for the solo connoisseur of fun.

Sky’s the Limit

Whether you want to befriend other families and groups enjoying the attractions, or simply “disappear” in the crowd, this is your time to enjoy as you see fit. No tug-of-wars over which rides and shows to check out, you just go where you want to go, unfettered by other wills and other desires. Why waste precious time with squabbles and compromises? Traveling as a group can be cumbersome, we all know. As a party of one you are your own agent, an agent on a mission to have FUN.

Savvy Single Rider

The Magic Kingdom may not have any Single Rider Lines, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a shrewd single rider. In a subtle way, without being whatsoever rude, you can ask if there are any spare single seats and get fast forwarded through the line. While families just arriving are working out their game plans near the gates, you can b-line right over to, say, Pirates of the Caribbean, a popular favorite, and take a few spins before the others begin to flock. Wait until early evening when families are leaving to get the little ones dinner to the Jungle Cruise for a relaxing boat ride.

Noteworthy Attractions

As far as the great shows at the Magic Kingdom go, the actors love nothing more than to play to a packed house, and they pull out al their tricks to see that you are accommodated as a single member of the audience. Don’t miss Hall of Presidents and the Haunted Mansion, two big hits at Liberty Square. Or skip over to Frontierland for rides like Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. While you’re there, don’t forget to explore the caves and forts at Tom Sawyer Island, or use your single edge to compete for a FastPass, the prize for winning the Pain Brush Hunt.

Single Seat Dining

For the same reason that you’ll move more swiftly through the lines for rides, you’ll cruise through most lines in restaurants. That swivel seat at the bar has your name on it, and it can be yours for the taking without having to compete with the families and groups waiting for four-tops and large tables. There are lots of very comfortable bars for the elegant diner, so don’t feel you’ll have to go elbow-to-elbow for pub food. Whether you’re hankering for a char-grilled burger or want to crank it up a couple of notches with some five star cuisine, dining solo’s the crème de resistance at the Magic Kingdom.
